Bio:

I’m Sumer, part of the Class of 2023 at Claremont McKenna College. I’m a big fan of all things tech which is why I have a deep interest is entrepreneurship, innovation, and product. I also love to play sports and video games. I want to be an advisor to help out the global Sikh community in any way I can.

Going to college is never an easy task, especially when you have to assimilate into a new culture. Coming from an international background, I know there were some things I could have done better. So, I want to be able to give my 2 cents and help out in the college admission process in whatever capacity is required!

Samrath Machra

College Advisor @ Claremont McKenna College

Location: Tennessee, USA

Orgs and ECs:
SSA, Student Government, Sanskriti Dance, Under the Lights (Theatre)

Bio:
Hi, I’m Samrath,  a rising Junior at Claremont McKenna College, majoring in Religious Studies and Government. I’m fascinated by the intersection of religion, government, and ethics. I like to pick up hobbies and ideas from people I come across. Some past and current ones include juggling, rock-climbing, yo-yoing, working out, guitar, and playing with any dog I find.

I want to be a SPN advisor because I know the college application period is confusing and difficult to work through. I want every Sikh student to have an older brother or sister to lean on and help with the process.

Luca Khalsa

College Advisor @ Claremont McKenna College

Location: Bangalore, India

Orgs and ECs:

Bio:

Born in India of an American Sikh father and Italian mother, I moved to Italy when I was two, and returned to India for the rest of my elementary and middle school. My first language was Italian, and when I learned English, it was with a distinctive South Indian accent. I feel like this lack of clear cultural roots has prepared me for what will be the norm in the years to come, where all of us will need to be global citizens. I love languages, and the ability to connect with people from different backgrounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

6 at Claremont McKenna and about 15 in the 7 College Consortium

Aim to be in the top 10%-15% of your class. The average ACT is 33. CMC put a ton of focus on how you’ve applied your learning via ECs so don’t stress too much about scores and grades.

Definitely Economics, Government, Psychology, International Relations, and PPE (Philosophy Government and Economics). We have the reputation for being a Econ heavy school but some of our other majors like Philosophy and Religious Studies really standout among top schools.
